Samba for Schools – bringing the Bateria to the classroom is a book designed to help the classroom music teacher or music coordinator, from primary school up to college level, to create a Samba band that will make a loud and wonderful noise! With a percussion trolley and a basic ability to read music simple Samba grooves can be taught; even if music reading isn’t a teacher's strength, the 75 recordings that accompany the text give an accurately played version of the various musical examples. Schools love having ensembles, Samba included, but can’t always draw on the experience of a visiting Samba teacher; Samba for Schools offers a way of creating an ensemble that isn’t expensive to equip, and is really inclusive – no need for a strong academic background in music, just the ability to count to four and a love of music are needed. The Samba grooves included range from very simple to more complex – many of them are part of the regular show and parade repertoire of Truro School of Samba, one of the most celebrated Samba groups in the South West. The book draws on Seán Hooper's 20 years of experience in teaching and playing Samba, and his 50 years of experience in playing music of all kinds.
