‘Harrotol’ was created because a couple of my students at the time, who had enjoyed playing ‘Duell’, ‘Crossfire 3’ and ‘Kit Split’, demanded a new piece of music that, along with everything else, included stick throwing! So, in the middle of this work that already has a lolloping 12/8 opening section with cross-rhythms and a march style question and answer passage, there is featured a few bars of stick throwing, which is fraught with danger because the performers are required to play their instruments at the same time. Once again, this piece shares the instruments from a standard five piece Drum Kit between the two players, but this time they are facing each other and so the sticks have to be negotiated over both sets of instruments. (It may be wise to have several spare sticks available when performing this piece!)
